Teen Fiction

Grant Reeves, Z for Zachariah, by Robert O' Brien, copyright 1974 by Sally Conly, Simon Pulse publishing, 1230 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY.

In the novel Z for Zachariah, Ann, a young adult that had survived a nuclear holocaust, is troubled when she notices an approaching column of smoke coming towards her serene little valley that her ancestors had founded. She takes shelter in a nearby cave and watches the man in his tent, but he doesn't seem to be moving at all. Ann finally figures out that he has radiation poisoning from swimming in a radioactive river. When he wakes up and feels better, Ann has to feed him and care for him, for, he might be the only human left on Earth. Once he started to walk things just got worse, he demanded more and more. When things got to heavy, she decided to make some drastic changes to the way the communications go around. The rest is your's to find out.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone who wants a good aventure and suspense story out there. The main character, is a girl yet fights through the dead of the world like a man. She is strong willed and caring. The reason I kept on reading was that the book was fast paced and had a lot of conflict.

Twisted

The novel Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson is a fiction genre.  The copyright date is 2007; the city of publication is Detroit. The city of publication is Viking, a member of Penguin Group, United States Incorporation.

High School Senior, Tyler Miller, is an average outcast with only one friend. Until he does something dangerous; graffiti’s the school. He works the whole summer and comes back his senior year noticed. His new reputation sets off a charm to the “hottest” girl in school, Bethany Milbury, whose step-brother happens to be Tyler’s newly found enemy. But when his fantasy becomes reality, he realizes it might be too good to be true. Now he has to find the man inside to stand his ground, or risk threatening his family, his not so social life, and himself.

I recommend this novel to any young teens out there; this drama filled plot will put anyone in a twist. It’s filled with breath taking events that any teen could be faced with; depression, suicide, pressure, mental, and physical abuse, and faith. I couldn’t stop turning the page, the disbelief, and suspicion kept me reading on.

I really enjoyed this book with all the suspense and hardships Ann went through just to save a man maybe the last of her kind. I recomend this book to anyone who thinks about what if this could happen, what if i was the last survivor on earth. The kind of reader that likes to put them selves in the charecters situations and play out through the book as if it were them. This book is all about facing the reallity of your own situation and how to react quick to it. So i recomend you read this book.

Looking for Alaska

Looking for Alaska  is written by John Green is a fiction book. Copyright 2005, published by Speak, an imprint of Penguin Group.

In Looking for Alaska,Miles known as "Pudge" decides to go the boarding school Culver Creek in Alabama. His father went there when he was his age. At this school you dorm with another person and its very hot with no air conditioning. Pudge decides to go to search for new friends and so he calls the Great Perhaps. She was dating Jake and there goes his thoughts at the time but never stopped him for loving her. Alaska was the Colonel's connection to his liquor and cigarettes. At Culver Creek you had to sneak all this stuff. So they went to the smoking hole. That's were they did everything. That's also where Pudge met Takumi. The four of them became the best of friends. They did everything together. But this is when the pranking, drugs, and misbehaiving comes in. That was Alaska's thing to do. Prank. She also loved reading and drinking. The four of them were never up to anything good. One night just the Colonel, Alaska, and Pudge were hanging out and something happens...but in order to find out you have to read the book!

I loved the book! There is some sexuality, vulgar language, strong language and inappropriate parts. I definitely recommend getting permission if you think this book is too advanced or unable to be allowed to read. This book was amazing. At first I was like ehh I don't want to read it but then I read if for I think 5 hours straight. To be honest, I cried my eyes out so badly I needed like 10 tissues. I never cry while I'm reading a book but the end really got to me. I even chuckled a couple times. I had suspense and inpatients at some points. If you like emotional books, books that keep you on the edge wondering whats gonna happen next I think you should read this book!

The book Looking for Alaskaby John Green is a fiction book copyright 2005 the library of congress has cataloged the dutton edition.

The book Looking for Alaska is about this 16 year old Miles who goes off to college to Culver Creek Preparatory and he meets new friends there. He is having fun, doing pranks, and just having fun wit his new friends. He goes parting with his friends and he meets a couple girls, but he likes Alaska. She loves to read but she also loves to have fun. They end up hanging out together and doing major pranks together that they could get suspended from school. But they love to take chances, and usually they don't get caught because they are so good at them. So there is a little bit of romance going on and they cuddle and kiss. Then one night they went out to a party where there was alcohol, someone ends up driving while he/she is drunk and end up getting in a car crash.

I would definitely recommend this book for teens and young adults. It does have a little of sexuality in it, but this is a great book. It was sad to me at the end and didn't expect it to happen. This book is exciting, funny, and suspenseful. I liked this book.

The book “‘The Last Apprentice, Wrath of the Bloodeye’” by Joseph Delaney is about a 15 year old name Tom Ward. Tom is learning how to become a spook. A spook is a person that fights the dark and protects the people of the dark.

In this book, Tom has been an apprentice of the spook for about a year and a half and the spook or Toms master named John Gregory is sending tom to another spook named Bill Arkwright for 6 months. John is doing this because Bill can toughen tom up and make him stronger and he can teach tom about the dark that lurks in the water like water witches and skelts. The reason why Tom needs to be toughened up is because the fiend or the Devil has been released into the world by a clan of witches. The witches want Tom died and that’s why the fiend was summoned. The fiend also wants tom died for then he can rule the earth forever. There a problem with that, if the fiend kills Tom then he can only rule for 100 years witch to the fiend isn’t a long time at all. A century mite seems more than a blinking eye. The spook says, “‘the problem is, for the fiend a hundred years isn’t a long time. Time isn’t the same for him and a century might seem hardly more than the blinking eye. Oh no he wants to rule longer than that’” (Delaney 338). Then Tom says, “‘so am I safe?”’(Delaney 338). After that the spook says “‘no. Unfortunately it says in your mam’s book that if he gets one of his children to kill you, then he can rule in the world, and that’s why he’s sent his daughter to do the job”’ (Delaney 338). The fiend sends his daughter, Morwena after Tom. Morwena is a water witch and she has a blood filled eye that paralyzes her victims. The eye is sealed by a sharp bone pin In her eye lid and that keeps the eye closed. The witch tries 3 times to kill Tom but she never succeeds.                  The book I read is " The Rise of Renegade X" by Chelsea Campbells. My book is about a teenager named Damien Locke. He doesn't live in a typical city like everyone else, he lives in a city where every day there is an epic battle between superheroes and super villains. Basically his hometown is just a giant tourist attraction.

Damien was raised by his supervillain mother. when damien turns 16 he will get a mark on his thumb indiacating if he will become a super hero or supervillain. Damien's 16th birthday is very soon and he is looking forward to gatting a "v" thumbprint at midnight on his upcoming birthday. When Damien's birthday comes the thumbprint he finds is not the "v" that he wanted, nor the "h" thumbprint (for hero) that he despised. Instead he finds an "x". He doesn't understand what it means, but he finds out throughout the story. there is a little twist to how Damien got the "x" thumbprint on his thumb, nobody has seen one in many years. But you'll have to read if you want to find out.

I really liked this book, and I would recommend it for people above the age of twelve. The reason I liked this book is because of the sarcastic humor the aouthor encorporates onti the story.I wopuld definitely recommend this book.

I would stay up very late reading this book because each chapter ended with an itching scene where I would just have to continue reading. There's scenes in this book that could resemble everyday life. It's an exotic mixture of sadness and humor. I Highly Recommend it!

Sunrise Over Fallujah

The book I read was Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers. This book is a Historical Fiction novel. Copyright 2008 by Walter Dean Myers. All rights reserved. Published by Scholastic Press, an imprint of Scholastic Inc. It was first published by Permissions Department, 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012.

This book is very suspense filled. This book tells the story of Robin “Birdy” Perry. It is 2003 and the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is the infantry, the navy, the air force, and then there is the civilian affairs unit. Thats where Birdy is. The Civilian Affairs Unit has the most important job even though you most likely haven’t heard of them. They have to deal with the enemy just like everyone else, and they also have to deal with trying to deal with the people. Birdy when he joined the army had expected to be in the front line with the infantry but, it had resulted in the exact opposite. Birdy and his new friends Marla, Captain Coles, Jonesy, and Captain Miller all ended up in the back of the lineup. They always have to ride in the middle of the infantry and the medical teams. In Birdy’s mind he went through all the training in Boot Camp for nothing. Little did he know he would actually end up in going into combat. So when he really did go and shoot at real people he was so scared! After the firefight he felt so ashamed of being a coward.

This a book for anyone who likes suspense books and/or action books. I liked this book a lot. I thought it was a good book because it tells you some facts about Operation Iraqi Freedom and it also has a little humor in it. So this book comes HIGHLY RECCOMENDED BY ME!!!!!

Mrs.Cartier Per. 3
Book Review

I read "Dating Dead Men" that was by Harley Jane Kozak. This book was published and copyright in 2004. My novel's setting is in the 1957's and the location is in Los Angeles. The protaganist/main charater is Wollie Shelley. She is a cheater and she has dated a lot of men. There are a lot of conflicts but the main conflict was she had dated forty men in sixty days. Every day she would date someone, see if she liked him, and if she did'nt she would break up with him, and go and get another guy to date.
The story is told in first person; Wollie is the narrator. If you are an eighth grader who loves mysteries and romantic stories you would love this book. There are some big vocad words, I would put the vocabulary level as a five. The difficulty level is a four that's because there are some difficult vocab words. Also the interest level is a seven that's because their was a lot of good times Wollie had.
My favorite part of this book was when Wollie said she was trying to find true love then something bad would happen, like getting killed. I really like books like that when the book leaves you hanging.

Cody Young period 9 Mrs.Cartier Book Review

The subject of this book review is Mariah Mundi : The Midas Box . It is by G.P Taylor published in 2007 the main conflict of this story is man VS man and it is about Mariah keeping the magical deck of cards the Panjandrum from Otto Luger.the settin of this exciting book is in the 1800's in what is most likley Britain or Europe somewhere.

The protagonist of this story wouldbe Mariah Mundi. The point of viewtold from Mariah Mundi. G.P Taylor uses first person as his point of view. My favorite part of the midas box was definitley towards the end because Otto Luger is revealed for what he really is or who he truly is and something is revealed about Albion and Black.

The Midas Box in my opinion was a very good book for an eighth grader becasuse it is interesting, exciting, medium vocabulary ,and it is not difficult to read. I did not dislike any part of the novel. So in my opinion this is a very good book.

Book reveiw:
Twilight by, Stephanie Meyers
Lily VanDeValk, peiod-5

Have you ever picked up a book and couldn’t put it down? Well the book Twilight is a best seller written by Stephanie Myers and just might be the most thrilling romance book you’ll ever pick up! Twilight is a fantasy that was copyrighted in 2005. I would recommend this book to people who are ages twelve and up because the vocabulary is at a higher level. Stephanie Meyer defiantly keeps you on your toes in this book! After you start reading Twilight you won’t want to put down it down because the author does an out standing job at hooking the reader. She does this by making the reader develop questions in your head and predict what will happen next.

Twilight is all about a girl named Isabella Swan who moves from Arizona to Washington State to live with her father while her mom travels with her new husband. Bella’s father lives in a small town named Port Angels. The first day Bella goes to school she notices five very appealing group sitting at a table together. She notices that they all have very pail skin and are incredibly gorgeous! Isabella later founds out that they are all a family and their names are, Jasper Cullen, Emmett Cullen, Alice Cullen, Rosalie Cullen, and the one who is in her science class Edward Cullen. The main conflict in Twilight is that Edward is extremely dangerous to Bella’s kind but Bella is in love with Edward and doesn’t care how dangerous he is. Isabella swan is the protagonist in Twilight and James is the antagonist. The conflict in Twilight is man vs. man. My favorite part in this book is when Edward rescues Bella from James in the bale building and kills James. You have to read Twilight even if you don’t enjoy reading because you will absolutely love this book! If you’re thinking that this book is just for girls your wrong because this book is not just a romance book but also an action packed ride! Seventeen million copies of Twilight are already out so get reading! :)

Book Review:
Cut by, Patricia Mc Cormik
Destiny Peck, Period 9

In the story Cut by Patricia Mc Cormik the author uses 1st person point of view. I can tell because the narrator, Callie, always says I, me, or my. The main character, Callie is the person telling the story.
The setting takes place at Sea Pines, which is a place where young people get help with their problems. Callie is at Sea Pines because she cuts. Not everyone at Sea Pines cuts, they all have their own kind of problems. For the longest time Callie doesn’t talk to anyone, not even her little brother or mom. But when she can’t hold her feelings in anymore something really big happens!
I would definitely recommend this book to people especially my age because it is a really good book. The vocabulary level is easy and I love how the author wrote it. My favorite part is the ending. But I really did not like the beginning but its worth reading the whole book for the ending!

John Gerace 12/2/10

Review English

J.K. Rowling. A genius in the end of here work. J.K. and her final book, The Deathly Hallows. Her inspiration was actually right at home, her brother. One day when her brother was playing with his friends, they were defeating evil forces with magic. She thought for a long time about that, so one day it came to be the 17 year long road of writing Harry Potter.
Will Harry be able to stop Voldemorte? Who will run Hogworts, if it stays open? Why did Dumbledore have to die? Why did they use owls for messenger birds, why not eagles, who are much faster? Why do they have to use wands? Why cant use there hands. Harry’s cloak was amazing. One of the main things that helped him through the whole story line. Are there anymore? How was it made? Who made it? If there aren’t anymore, how come they didn’t make more?
I think Harry Potter is a good book for anyone who likes a fantasy. I loved the books and the movies.
